Sub Pay and Recall Rights
Here is a breakdown of the benefits under the current National Agreement; please keep in mind that we are currently in national negotiations and working under a mutually agreed upon extension of our contract and some things could change with the new agreement. The UAW has modified their JOBS program and talks are ongoing with ours as well.
Members with at least 10 years of seniority are protected employees and can only be on layoff for 48 weeks per our IUE/CWA National Agreement. The first 26 weeks of a layoff a member will draw state unemployment benefits supplemented by SUB benefits from the GM-IUE/CWA SUB Fund. After they exhaust their weeks of state unemployment benefits, they will receive full SUB benefits for the remainder of the 48 weeks. After 48 weeks they will be recalled to the plant and then placed into the JOBS Program in which they will receive their regular straight time hourly rate of pay. They will be assigned by the JOBS Committee to do training, used as a replacement to facilitate the training of another employee or given a job assignment within or outside the bargaining unit which may be non-traditional.
Members with less than 10 years of seniority will be eligible for up to a total of 52 weeks of Sub benefits the first 10 years of seniority. The first 26 weeks of a layoff, a member will draw state unemployment benefits supplemented by SUB benefits from the GM-IUE/CWA SUB Fund. After they exhaust their weeks of state unemployment benefits, they will receive full SUB benefits for the remainder of the 52 weeks. After exhausting his or her Sub benefit weeks there are no more benefits payable according to the GM-IUE/CWA Sub Benefit Agreement. After their SUB benefits are exhausted they will have recall rights of:
Less than 1 year of seniority = 18 months of recall rights
1 to 3 years of seniority = 3 years of recall rights
3 or more years of seniority = time for time
Life insurance and Union dues may be deducted from Sub benefits. SUB benefits will be 95% of a normal 40 hour after tax pay and that amount will be taxed according to your withholding through payroll. An additional $30.00 will be deducted for work related expenses not incurred.
