INDIVIDUAL UPWARD EDUCATION PLAN

Active Employees

To be eligible employees must:

  • Be an IUE-CWA represented employee;
  • Have 90 days seniority;
  • Be on the active employment roll with seniority or on temporary layoff; and
  • Not be on a leave of absence

Under the program, active employees are eligible for:

  • $4,600 for degree-related courses at regionally accredited colleges or universities, of which $100 may be used for books in degree-related courses;
  • $2,100 for seminars, workshops, high school equivalency and literacy programs, trade school courses or job related courses
  • An automatic advance of up to $1,000 for employees enrolled in accredited college/university courses that exhaust their current year's tuition eligibility. This advance is not available in the last calendar year of the Agreement  

In no event shall the total assistance to an employee exceed $4,600 in a 12 month period (January 1 - December 31), except in a year in which the $1,000 automatic advance is used, then an employee can receive up to $5,600.

Laid Off Employees

To be eligible for tuition assistance, laid-off employees must:

  • Be an IUE-CWA represented GM employee

  • Be on an indefinite layoff;

  • Have a minimum of 1 year seniority as of the last day worked for the Corporation; and

  • Have recall/ rehire rights under the terms of the present GM-IUE-CWA National Agreement

Spouse or Dependent Children

Spouses are not eligible for the program.  However, the spouse or dependent child of a deceased active employee is eligible to use the remaining balance of the employee's annual IUEP for education during a period equal to the length of the present agreement following the date of the employee's death.  The program does provide for a Scholarship Program for Dependent Children

Schools

Schools participating in the program must be accredited, licensed in the state in which they operate, or approved by governmental education or training programs.  All schools must be approved by the Tuition Plan Administrator, edcor.  For a list of approved schools in the Dayton area please click here.
